Webvisions offers complete flexibility when it comes to your data requirements. With any web hosting product, we can provide you with your choice of one of two data models, bandwidth availability or data transfer.

Bandwidth availability

Bandwidth availability is used to describe the maximum amount of data in bits that can be transmitted across a medium in one second, also known as bits-per-second or bps. This is usually measured using Multi-Router Traffic Graphs (MRTG) systems, allowing you to view how much data is being sent through your connection at any point in time.

The advantages of choosing this data model include:

  • Guarantee yourself a minimum amount of dedicated bandwidth;
  • 'Fix' your data costs, allowing you to make better business forecasts

It is useful to imagine this model as rather like the cost of purchasing a water pipe from a hardware store. The larger the size of the pipe, the more water that can traverse the pipe. However, unlike a water pipe, you can also choose to 'cap' or 'uncap' your bandwidth. 'Uncapped' bandwidth allows you to 'burst' above the limits of the bandwidth you have purchased. Depending upon how often you burst above your limit, you may or may not need to pay any extra to do so.

Data transfer

Data transfer is used to describe the measurement of the actual amount of data that is transmitted across a connection in Megabytes (MB). Instead of limiting how much data can pass through your connection every second, we simply measure each MB of data that is transferred through your connection.

The advantages of choosing this data model include:

  • Pay only for the data you actually use, instead of paying for unused capacity;
  • A simplified model where you know your data costs on a daily basis.
